How to choose a humidifier for a room

The short answer
Start with room size: the models discussed are rated for roughly 20–40 m² at about 300 ml/h. Tank size affects refill intervals: approximately 7 hours for the 2.3 l MH-204 and 13 hours for the 4 l WH-411 at the stated output. Follow the model's water requirements; low-mineral water reduces white dust, whereas an ordinary filter may not remove dissolved minerals. Clean the unit regularly.
How an ultrasonic humidifier works
A membrane breaks water into a fine cool mist that is carried into the room. These units are quiet and frugal: MH-204 and WH-411 draw 25 W. The mist is not hot, but should not be aimed at wallpaper, furniture or electronics.
Coverage and output
The stated coverage is roughly 20–40 m² at 300 ml/h, but area is only a starting point. Ceiling height, ventilation and existing humidity affect the result. Measure humidity with a hygrometer before deciding that a larger unit or a second humidifier is needed.
Tank and run time
Run time between refills equals tank volume divided by output. MH-204 with a 2.3 l tank runs for about 7 hours, WH-411 with 4 l for about 13 hours. Both models switch off automatically when the water runs out.
Water and white dust
Hard water can leave white dust on furniture and scale inside the unit. Use water allowed by the manual; distilled or otherwise low-mineral water can reduce mineral deposits, while ordinary filtration is not necessarily demineralisation. MH-204 has a softening cartridge rated for about 400 l. Never add oils or detergents to the tank. Use the separate aroma-stick compartment only with substances expressly permitted by the manual, never cleaning products.
Controls
WH-411 has a mist-control ring and no timer. Empty-tank shut-off prevents continued operation without water; it does not control room humidity. Check humidity separately and reduce or stop mist if condensation or damp surfaces appear. For other models, check whether a hygrostat, display or timer is included.

- Choose water that meets the manual's requirements; ordinary filtration may not remove minerals.
- Plan the spot: a level, stable surface with the mist away from furniture and sockets.
- Check whether you need a timer, aroma function or display controls.

- Placing the humidifier against a wall or on unprotected wood.
- Using hard water without checking the model's water requirements.
- Adding essential oils to the water tank.
- Leaving the membrane and tank uncleaned for weeks.
